Emma is in her last few months in the Retail Assistant role at Greencell, a fresh produce supplier based in Kent. Greencell have been an MDS Member since 2019 and in that time have offered some amazing secondment opportunities. During her secondment she has gained a huge amount of exposure to discover her potential in the industry.

Who is Greencell?

Greencell is a fresh produce supplier owned by the Hans Merensky Trust, developed to create value through sustainability. The business focus on strengthened ‘family’ sources where the organisation develops, grows, packs, and supplies with expertise in all areas. Alongside this, the business has an extensive social welfare support network for all workers. Greencell specialises in Avocados but also concentrates on NPD, including Value-Added Avocado and Dried Fruit. They have a 52-week Avocado availability, focused on quality above everything else, striving to ensure retailers are fully satisfied.

My Greencell Role

At Greencell, I have been able to experience the Retail Assistant secondment role where I assist the Account Managers. I am also able to get involved in additional projects. The role involves interacting with buyers and associated contacts to sustain relationships. I also ensure targets are met and oversee daily administration tasks. In this role, I work with a range of stakeholders, including retailers and buyers, distributors, packers, as well as the Sales Support and Finance Teams. I have been able to gain so much experience within the role and have had exposure to the ordering process, auditing, cost analysis, the tender process, forecasting and promotional planning.

Best part:

For me, the highlight has been the challenges that I have faced whilst being seconded here. The entire team give you the autonomy and opportunity to seek challenges and discover your potential. Within this role, I have worked across a multitude of projects which have seen me testing new skills and learning more than I could have thought was possible.

The second-best part (because one isn’t enough) is most definitely the team. I have been made to feel incredibly welcomed. At Greencell, if you are willing to put in the work, the team really do rely on you and get you involved. There are so many chances to learn outside of the role. Alongside this, the team are incredibly social, and we get up to lots of fun outside of work.
